The smartboard file that I created for this class has lots of helpful learning tools that will provide an overview of a balanced diet and other healthy lifestyle tips.

* 1st,You will click the learning tab and go through the 10 slides that are posted.
* 2nd,  after going through these 10  slides, click the review tab.
* 3rd, please complete the test. This will not be graded, but will be a good study tool that will help test your knowledge.

A Visit to the Past

We are going on a field trip!!! We will be going to Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College."Take your students on a trip back in time with our Visit to the Past workshop. This hands-on workshop for grades K-12 includes educational and fun-filled activities, some of which may include operating the hand press at the print shop, grinding corn into meal and grits at the gristmill, washing clothes on a washboard, making a poultice at the doctor’s office, working with the blacksmith or shelling corn for the animals at the farm.Students dress in costume and eat an authentic farmhouse lunch, cooked over the open hearth or on a woodstove, at one of the village’s houses or cabins, much as they would have in rural wiregrass Georgia over a century ago."

School Spirit

We will be making a "healthy breakfast" for our football players on homecoming game day, and using corkboard to brainstorm what our class wants to prepare on this day.

A Taste Around the World

Pack your bags, we're going on a trip around the world!!! Not literally, but we will be experiencing different cultures and trying different cuisines. This project is going to be so fun, and very yummy!! You will be divided into different groups and work on this project with your teammates.

The goals of this project are listed below and modeled from this site.
  • to become knowledgeable about the cuisine of a specific foreign country.
  • to plan a complete meal that will be prepared and served as part of the class.
  • to educate the class about the history of the types of foods and eating habits identified with that country.
  • to work cooperatively with a group to plan and present the information to the class.

Corkboard

We will be using Corkboard, an online corkboard, for many of our "brainstorming sessions"that we do in this class. It is a fun, easy way to post sticky notes on the corkboard, brainstorm , and collaborate different ideas with other classmates.Take a look at a sample corkboard that I created for this class. We will explore some of these topics that I posted later in this course.

Welcome to Ms. Adams class blog!!

Welcome to Ms. Adams Home-ec nutrition class. This blog will have class assignments and will be where you will come to  check our class updates. Also, it's a place where you can post questions regarding assignments and collaborate with other students.

The goal of this course is to provide an overview and understand nutrition. We will be learning why you make certain food choices, and the consequences of the food choices you make.  How to create a healthy relationship between diet and health, how to find and choose healthy foods, nutrients and their food sources, the Food Guide Pyramid, Dietary Guidelines and goals. It is going to be a very interactive hands on class. As we explore all of these topics we will be doing so through different projects, experiments, cooking, and even a fun field trip!!!
